IMPORTANT FOR THE EXAM

Beware of dangling participle phrases.

Blowing the crane fiercely, the crowd ran.

(The wind is blowing the crane, not the crowd.)

The gerund is formed by adding -ing to a verb.

Although the gerund may look like a present participle, it is used only as a noun.

Seeing clearly is important for good driving.

(Seeing is the subject; driving is the object of the preposition for.)

A participle phrase is used as a noun.

Seeing traffic signals is important for good driving.
